Our Holiday Gift Shop Is Now Open!
November 25th, 2015

First, we should certainly say Happy Thanksgiving. Or what is also known as that brief respite before the official beginning of retail madness. Black Friday! Door-buster offers! Cyber Monday!

If you’d rather sit back and enjoy the weekend and avoid the shops, but still have a few people on your list … well, we have a solution for you. Our holiday gift shop is now open.

We believe a fine bit of paper is one of life’s little luxuries.

With nothing more than $20 in our holiday gift shop (and a lot under $10), these are also very affordable luxuries.

Our shop is a carefully curated collection of some our most tempting paper goodies. Notebooks, notepads, art prints, cards – and our limited edition 2016 Quote Calendar.

Plus! We’re providing free shipping on any orders through 15 December as our holiday gift to you. Just remember to use the code HAPPYSHIP at checkout.

So, sit back in that comfy chair, prop up your ipad and have a browse through our holiday shop.

Special Gift for Early Bird Card Shoppers!
November 6th, 2015

We get it. You’ve just packed away your Halloween outfit, finally thrown out the old pumpkin that was sitting on the porch and now we want you to think about Christmas already?!

Well, yes, but to cushion the Christmas blow we’re offering a little gift just for you. Enjoy a free box of 8 Christmas Reindeer enclosure cards (see below) with your purchase from our online store. These mini cards, measuring 2.5×3.5″, are the perfect thing to dress up a present.

This year we have plenty of fresh new designs to choose from. A personal favorite might be these “Eat. Drink. Be Merry. Repeat.” The rich red has really printed up nicely, and we pair them with a shimmery gold envelope.

Or maybe you like the holiday with a bright pop of color. These Merry Baubles are printed with neon ink on premium white card stock with a gold envelope. Like all our holiday cards, they are available as single cards, or as a boxed set of 8.

If you’re looking for luxe, the hand-drawn stars on our “All is Calm” card are picked up with gold foil and actually shimmer in the light.

Perhaps you’re a doxie-lover, in which case we have our rather adorable dachshund with a bright red Rudolph nose.

Naturally many of your favorites designs from years past return again, like this “Fabulous” Christmas card.

That’s just a holiday taster! See our whole collection of holiday cards here.

And just a little bit of fine print on our offer: The Holiday Reindeer mini cards (a $10 value) are yours provided you make a minimum $15 online purchase, and your order is placed by 30 November. (This offer is not valid in brick and mortar stores.)

So go on, choose your Christmas cards now. Wouldn’t it be nice to have at least one thing knocked off your holiday to-do list already?

Top Sellers from the Stationery Show
June 16th, 2015

A month ago, the world of paper creatives converged on New York for an annual shindig called “The National Stationery Show”, or the NSS. And, yep, that’s me, above, plying our wares in the halls of the Javits Center.

Now that the last of the post-show orders have headed out the door, we have a chance to catch our breath and share our top sellers from the NSS. Drum roll, please …

1. Happy Palm Beach colors and a lovely quote from Lilly Pulitzer helped make this birthday card our number one.

2. This anniversary card, thermo-printed for extra pop, proved to be right on target.

3. Just in time for the wedding season, this card works as elegantly for engagements.

4. This great quote from Thomas Jefferson was among a set of 5 cards that featured his words – though everyone seemed to love a little rebellion that little bit more …

5. Cycle-mania shows no signs of slowing down. This neon-inked little number was our most popular thank you card. (Available as a single card or in a boxed set of 8 cards.)

6. And, finally: Candles, balloons, presents, cake. Need we say more? With hand lettered type designed to look like icing.

With any luck, these cards are now winding their way to a store near you, but of course they are all also available online for immediate purchase. Just click here to have a browse.

Special Christmas Card Offer!
November 27th, 2014

Now I know what you’re thinking. The thanksgiving turkey is barely cold, and already we need to be talking reindeer? But actually this is my favorite time of the year.

I love those early weeks of holiday preparation, when everything — from baking cookies, to creating bespoke wrapping paper, to finding a perfect present for everyone on my list — seems in the realm of possibility … before reality sets in and I think of course there’s nothing wrong with a gift certificate aren’t shop-bought cookies just as nice?

The one bit I try not to rush is the holiday card tradition. Of course I would say that, but is there anything nicer than sitting down with a fresh box of cards, a list of dear friends, and reaching out to say hello over the holidays?

Naturally we’d like to make your job a little bit easier. So we’re offering you dear readers a special discount at Use the code HAPPY for 20% off, sitewide. Offer good from today right until 25 December, so go on, let’s get happy over the holidays.

Here are a few more new holiday card designs to enjoy.

Because not everyone has access to reindeer.

And if you can’t be fabulous over the holidays, then when can you?

New this season! We are introducing little enclosure-size (2.5 x 3.5″) holiday cards (like the ones above). Perfect for dressing up a present or, if we do manage to throw something in the oven after all, adorning a delicious box of Christmas cookies.

Wishing you happy holiday shopping at And rest assured our elves do their darndest to get holiday card orders shipped out within 48 hours.

(At the moment we just ship in the US, but now our Canadian friends can find an exclusive range of J.Falkner designs, in conjunction with Paper E-Clips, at Indigo stores and independent retailers across the country.)

Hello London! Hello Letterpress!
October 17th, 2014

(This post originally appeared on Sarah Schwartz’s wonderful paper blog The Paper Chronicles.)

Blimey! Do we have big news to share. Big, as in Big Ben Big. Starting this month, our cards will be available in London, and throughout the British Isles.

Here’s how it happened. Back in May, Sarah and William Allardice from Archivist Press, “the home of British letterpress”, alighted upon our cards at the National Stationery Show … and thought our collection might sit happily among their own cards.

And don’t they just? (See the Archivist booth from Topdrawer, above). After a summer spent fine tuning our designs to fit their formats and printing process, Archivist launched the J.Falkner Collection of letterpress cards at the Topdrawer gift show in London last month.

All our cards are flat-printed in the US, so to see them re-interpreted in letterpress made us feel a little like Dorothy in “The Wizard of Oz” when she steps out of her old house into the exuberant technicolor of Oz. The rich inks, gorgeous paper stock and deep impression of type definitely made our heart sing!

Archivist cards are printed in rural England on vintage windmill presses. And their paper, sourced from sustainable forests, is milled in the heart of the Lake District. If those two sentences alone don’t restore your faith in the romance of the written word, I don’t know what will.

Another feather in the Archivist cap are the luxury matchboxes they produce. They cleverly took our little doxie holiday card and made it into this adorable matchbox (above) — so now we know what all our friends will be getting in their stockings. (Shh!)

The J.Falkner Collection of cards are now available online from the Archivist website here (and they ship to the US, Canada and Europe!), and they are heading out to UK retailers like Paperchase, the Conran Shop, and Fortnum & Mason (above) in the next few weeks. Cheerio, then! We’re grabbing our brollie and going out shopping …

When our cards popped up in Norfolk, England …
August 4th, 2014

Nothing thrills us more than great friends starting new businesses, so when the uber-chic London stylist Liz Thody (above, with her shop) floated her idea of a pop-up shop in Norfolk, our immediate response was: “We’re in!”

Norfolk is a few hours drive up north from London. Rich agrarian land means the county has become a bit of a foodie hotspot, and, with its northern boundaries hitting the North Sea, Norfolk boasts some of England’s most beautiful beaches — notably the famed Holkham Beach (above) where the Queen is known to run her horses or, depending your reference preference, where the concluding scene of “Shakespeare in Love” was filmed.

The shop was positioned at Wiveton Hall, just outside of the little town of Holt. Wiveton Hall has a very popular restaurant which serves up some of the freshest food in the county (like my meal of grilled heirloom tomatoes on toast).

Liz called her shop Little Donkey Pop-Up, and her whimsical donkey logo was branded on bags (above), with neon tassels she sourced in Morocco. (If you speak fashion, then you might say Summer 2014 is all about a tassel.)

The shop itself was an ingenious piece of construction. A simple wheelbarrow shape, it held cashmere sweaters, children’s dresses, hand-embroidered beach bags, trays of bright summer bracelets — and, of course, J.Falkner cards.

Liz chose bright summery cards from our line to complement her product mix, and we love how our range of friendship cards sat among the pastel cashmeres and retro bathing caps (see above).

For us, Little Donkey Pop-Up provided a welcome chance to nose around a part of England we’d never visited. The tree-shaded country lanes, the happy cows, the sun slanting over fields of hay — Norfolk was picture-postcard English countryside.

I even found myself reconsidering pebble siding, which can go so very wrong in London suburbs. Here in Norfolk, however, it has an authenticity and simplicity that was actually rather beautiful. (For example, this cottage in Burnham Market below.)

Goodbye for now, Norfolk — hope to see you and your wide wind-swept beaches again!

New treats for the National Stationery Show!
May 16th, 2014

For stationery folks like ourselves, this weekend is the big one. Sort of like a stationery superbowl — though don’t look for Beyonce or Madonna at the half-time show. Still there’s lots of energy to celebrate as companies big and small bring it to the Javits Centre in New York for the National Stationery Show.

And here at the J.Falkner workshop we’ve been busy, with over 30 new card designs to share this week. So we thought to give our readers a sneak peek at what buyers will be seeing over the next few days. We’d love to hear which are your favorites!

We have a new series of friendship cards, with hand-lettered sentiments and a pastel palette that feels fresh and happy.

You know when you just want to write a couple of words and don’t need a big ole card? Well, these flat cards are for you! Printed on extra thick paper with an eggshell finish that is a dream to write on.

This happy octopus was one of our stars at the last show, so here he returns as a thank you card. (Available as single cards, or boxed sets.)

And, finally, a foxy little way to thank you with our boxed fox thank you notes.

We have our entire new collection online for easy viewing – and ordering! Just in case you want to get a head start, all these cards are now available at our online shop, and will ship to retailers nationwide in June.

(Buyers visiting the show can find all our new releases at Booth #1951.)

Happy Easter Blooms!
April 19th, 2014

We’re celebrating Easter in London this year. Though Ella Fitzgerald might sing about loving Paris in the Springtime, for us, London is the place to be in Spring, when blossoms push forward from every corner. Here are a few favourites to wish you a truly lovely Easter.

It’s the little crocus, with their saffron hearts, that are the first to bring the promise of Spring in Hyde Park.

The fragile beauty of magnolias, glowing here in the setting sun (above), is so fleeting, especially when London rains arrive.

It’s hard to believe this explosion of cherry blossoms were actually so pink, but there they were one afternoon in Hyde Park.

Walton Place (above), with its white-blossomed trees a perfect compliment to the creamy white stucco buildings, is one of London’s most perfect little streets.

And this morning we spied bluebells pushing up against the iron grating in Hyde Park, just in time for Easter.

We feel spoiled to find such a beautiful spectrum of colors over the course of a few days, and are reminded of Oscar Wilde’s quote: “The true mystery of the world is the visible, not the invisible.” Happy Easter!

Going Green on St Pat’s!
March 17th, 2014

You want some St. Pat’s green? You got it. While we don’t (yet) have a specific St. Patrick’s Day card, that doesn’t mean we neglect green. In fact, a rich bright green is one of the signatures colors here at J.Falkner Cards.

We have a chartreuse notebook, chirping away (see above).

We have a buzzy green notepad, gathering all your to-dos.

And, of course, we have many green-colored cards, including this one with a quote from Coco Chanel (above).

We even have little green cards, like this Bee’s Knees enclosure card (above) which measures just 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches — the perfect size to adorn a little gift, or hostess present.

Find all our cards here, because though St Patrick’s Day comes but one day a year, we believe in celebrating green all year round.

A Big Kiss on Valentine’s Day!
February 13th, 2014

Happy Valentines Day! Today’s the day to reach out to those near and dear — and, for us, that definitely means you readers.

Valentines is the unofficial kick-off to the Spring card season. Lest we forget: Easter (April 13), Mothers Day (May 11, in Australia, Canada and the US; in the UK, it’s 30 March), Fathers Day (15 June; here the UK, US and Canada agree) and graduations in June.

But don’t feel overwhelmed, for help is at hand: we just happen to have cards for each one of these occasions. Have a little browse here. (To my own family, I caution: spoiler alert!)

Get a jump and choose your cards now and, not only will you have peace of mind, we’ll give you free shipping on your order until the end of February. Just use the code FREESHIP. It’s our little “mwah!” to you on Valentines Day.
